Makhana Superfood Boom Drives New 2025 Packaging Design Aesthetics

As Makhana (fox nut) explodes in popularity as a global superfood, Indian packaging designers are revolutionizing its shelf presence for 2025. Moving away from generic, transparent plastic pouches, brands are adopting premium, matte-finish stand-up pouches that signal health and luxury. The new design language features earthy color palettes—creams, sages, and ochres—paired with minimalist typography to communicate “guilt-free” snacking. Structural innovations are also key, with a focus on resealable zippers and nitrogen flushing to maintain crunch, ensuring the traditional Indian snack competes visually with international popcorn and chips brands on global retail shelves.

Breaking News: Delhi HC Stays FSSAI Order On ORS Labels, Gives Interim Relief to Kenvue’s ORSL

The Delhi High Court has granted interim relief to JNTL Consumer Health India, allowing the company to continue selling its ORSL-branded electrolyte beverages despite a recent directive from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The FSSAI orders, issued on October 14 and 15, 2025, prohibited the use of ‘ORS’ in the branding of non-WHO compliant formulations, aiming to prevent misleading claims. Justice Sachin Datta’s bench directed that these FSSAI orders would not be enforced against JNTL until a formal representation filed by the company is reviewed and decided upon by the FSSAI. This decision allows JNTL to continue its sales while the regulatory body re-evaluates its stance on the contentious labeling issue.

Siegwerk’s new water-based and bio-renewable coatings enable paper cups, food trays, and e-commerce mailers to be fully recyclable. This innovation addresses the critical “functionality gap” that often hinders the widespread adoption of paper alternatives in the food packaging sector.
